Home / Occasions / Christmas / A Christmas card template that comes with a cuddle

Awwwsome

That’s the magic of our Cuddle Card craft. It’s a DIY Christmas card with a charming personalised surprise. Your kids draw themselves on one template, and the person you’re sending the card to on the other. (Which, depending on your kids, can be charmingly sweet or hilariously silly.) Then, when the card is opened, the two characters give each other a friendly hug. Lovely.

You will need:

  • A4 card
  • butterfly pins
  • decorating tools (felt tip pens, paint, felt)
  • scissors
  • glue
  • craft knife

How to make a Cuddle Card

Step 1

Step 1

Start by printing the template and sticking it to a piece of A4 card. Then cut around the dotted lines.

Step 2

Step 2

Decorate each character with whatever you like – felt pens, glitter, cotton wool, string, buttons. Just don’t make the sender card too thick (that’s the one on the back) or they won’t fit together nicely.

Step 3

Step 3

Put the person receiving the card on top of the sender. Then push a butterfly pin through both near the bottom. You can use a craft knife to make a small cut first to make this step easier.

Step 4

Step 4

Turn the card over and write a message on the back. (If you want to write a longer message, do this step before attaching them together.)

Step 5

Step 5

Pop it into the post or hand deliver to a special grownup or friend. (Hugs don’t always travel well alone, so pop the card into an envelope first).

Step 6

Step 6

Wait to hear that your cuddle has been received. Splendid.
