Home / Cooking / Make your kid feel GIANT with tiny pancakes

FEE FI FO FUM, I NEED PANCAKES IN MY TUM!

How many pancakes do you make for breakfast? 12, you say? Try 312! We’re about to show you how to make the cutest flippin’ pancakes in the whole history of the world. Complete with miniature fruit toppings so teensy they’ll make your kid jump up and down (quietly and sensibly) with delight. They’ll love telling their friends they had five stacks of pancakes for dinner. And if they’re really foot-stompingly delicious, your little giant might even reach up and clean the upstairs windows for you.

For the pancakes you will need:

  • 2 eggs
  • 350ml milk
  • 200g plain flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • butter (for frying)
  • a giant

And for the tiny toppings:

  • 2 juicy strawberries
  • 1 juicy blackberry
  • 1 banana
  • maple syrup
  • melted dark chocolate
  • Greek yoghurt

Let’s make tiny pancakes!

Step 1

Step 1

Ready to feed the giant? Right then. Mix the wet ingredients in one bowl and the dry ingredients in another. Keep an ear out for booming footsteps…

Step 2

Step 2

Make a well in the the dry ingredients, and pour in the egg mixture. Then whisk in the milk (while singing the whisking song) until your batter is smooth.

Step 3

Step 3

Grease a (normal sized) pan with some butter and let it get hot. Pour out your batter into lots of small circles. You can use an empty squeezy bottle or a spoon to control the flow. Ideally you want your tiny pancakes about 2mm thick and 5cm wide (giants can be quite fussy).

Time for the tiny toppings...

Super-small banana slices

Super-small banana slices

Cut a slice of banana. Use the end of a straw to cut out tiny circles from the slice, then make a few holes in the top with a toothpick or knife. Place the bananas on your stack, then melt a little chocolate and drizzle it over with a teaspoon. Yep, you can do the cuteness dance now. Tee hee!

Teeny-weeny blueberries

Pluck the juiciest blackberry from your garden (or punnet). Using the end of a knife, gently take off a few segments, being careful not to burst them. When you add your batter to the pan, sprinkle in a few segments. They’ll spread their gooey deliciousness as it cooks. Mmmm.

Microscopic strawberries

Microscopic strawberries

You’ll need a steady hand for this, so do a quick jiggle to rid excess energy. Ready? Cut out some microscopic strawberries from your normal strawberry. Then slice them with a sharp knife. Fan the slices on top of your pancake stack, and add a few tiny dollops of yoghurt. If you want a shimmery shiny syrup you can mix some honey and strawberry jam for pouring. Service please!

Itty bitty butter

Itty bitty butter

Cut a tiny square of paper from your butter wrapper (or some aluminium foil) and fold up the edges. Put a tiny pat of butter inside. Now your giant can enjoy the melty mouthwatering goodness before they tuck in. Just be careful they don’t drool too much (SPLOSH).
